What is a D7 visa?
The D7 Visa is a residence visa for a foreign pensioner, a foreigner who has passive income and a foreigner who is carrying out religious activity.

Who can apply for a D7 visa?
Third-country nationals can apply for the D7 visa when:
a) They have income from retirement pension, financial assets, real estate and intellectual property.
b) They carry out religious activities.

May I live in Portugal with my family?
Yes! The closest relatives are allowed to live in Portugal with the D7 visa holder. In this case, they have to apply for family reunification.
According to the Portuguese Immigration law, are considered as a family member:
a) Spouse or partner
b) Children under 18 or incapable children
c) Children over 18 who are studying, dependent and single
d) Parents who are dependents
e) Siblings under 18 who are legally under the supervision of the applicant or his spouse/partner. What is the minimum amount of income required?
The applicant has to prove a monthly income equivalent to the Portuguese minimum wage, that is to say, €820.00. It should be noted that when an applicant wants to live in Portugal with his family, a higher amount of income must be verified, and the minimum amount in that case, will vary depending on the relative and quantity of family members.
In order to calculate the minimum amount of income required, the following rules should be considered:
a) For the main applicant – 100% of the minimum wage;
b) From the second adult – 50% of the minimum wage (each);
c) For children under 18 and children over 18 – 30% of the minimum wage (each).

Minimum stay period in Portugal
The holder of a residence permit based on the D7 visa and his family must not remain outside Portugal for more than six consecutive months or eight non-consecutive months.

Procedure
A residence visa must be requested at the Portuguese Consulate or Embassy. This residence visa is valid for 120 days and allows the applicant to enter Portugal to apply for a temporary residence permit.
The first residence permit is valid for two years and renewable for three years. After five years living legally in Portugal, it is possible to apply for a permanent residence permit and the Portuguese citizenship as long as the applicant meets other legal requirements.
